I’ve recently been exposed to The xx and, i gotta tell you, they’re pretty brilliant despite barely being able to play their instruments. That’s, actually, why they ARE so brilliant. They can barely play their instruments (guitar, guitar, bass, drum pad, and male & female vocals) so they’re not to trying able to complicate their music. Thus, they work together to create these atmospheres using the most basics of music theory. 

It literally blows my mind how much they can do without doing much. The saying “less is more” definitely applies to them. The “drummer”, Jamie xx, is by far doing the most in terms of his instrument. The sounds he uses and creates are what elevates the rest of the band’s simple rhythms to a full sound. 

“Minimalism” is what people are calling it. I thought of minimalism as for the pretentious and snobby. But i finally understand what minimalism is supposed to be. It’s not just being less or doing little. It’s creating something great and full of soul without needing to do much.

Oh and they’re English.
